Antagonists Search for Biological Control of Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) in Cymbidium Genus

Abstract
This study was carried out to protect fusarium wilt using antagonists on Cymbidium genus during the summer. Pathogens were isolated from infected leaves and bulbs of Cymbidium ¢¥Anmitsu Hime¢¥. In pathogenicity test using a perfusion chamber, F. oxysporum f.sp. cattleyae showed a strong pathogenicity against Cymbidium ¢¥Anmitsu Hime¢¥. According to Cymbidium species and cultivars, a survival rate and susceptibility against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cattleyae were different. Oriental Cymbidium showed higher susceptibility than western Cymbidium. To screen antagonistic microorganisms against fusarium wilt, 15 bacteria and 15 actinomycetes candidates were isolated from 64 soil samples in western Cymbidium cultivated area and Cymbidium habitat at Mt. Halla, and examined the anti-fusarium spectrum on TSA (tryptic soy agar) or YMA (yeast malt agar) media. Strains such as A12 and B10 were selected as antagonistic microbes against fusarium wilt on Cymbidium. Selected isolates showed different inhibition rate according to media. In the case of TSA medium, inhibition rates of the isolates A12 and BIO were recorded as 73.3% and 67.6%, respectively.
